At Mashed, we absolutely love sharing overviews of our projects with everybody, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to show you the result of our collaboration with Blue Tomato GmbH on the Rent Your Ride (further mentioned as “RYR”) snowboard rental web app! So, hold on tight as we take you on an exciting journey and reveal the features and functionality of this innovative collaboration.
But first, before we dive into the project, let's give a big shout-out to the stakeholder team on the side of Blue Tomato coming from Software Development reaching to Marketing departments. We’ve worked together with these incredible people for months, elaborating and raising the new Rent Your Ride platform with passion into reality. Without the great collaboration, RYR wouldn't be today's awesome snowboard rental service.
Project aims:
The main goal of the collaboration between Blue Tomato and Mashed was to develop a customer-oriented online snowboard equipment rental service. The goal of the RYR platform was to simplify the rental process, boost convenience, and provide users with access to top-quality equipment. The project aimed to integrate advanced features such as personalized filtering options and seamless checkout processes to provide a superb snowboard rental experience.
The User-Flow:
To make the rental process for RYR users seamless, we've broken down the user flow into four distinct steps:
Step 1: Select Your Location and Date Upon landing on the RYR platform, your journey begins by selecting your location and the date for your snowboarding adventure. We've integrated Google Maps API to allow for easy location selection and included intelligent recommendations.
Step 2: Choose Your Delivery Option After settling on the location and date, you can choose how you'd like to receive your gear. You have two options: deliver the gear straight to your doorstep or pick it up from a rental store. To simplify this decision, our platform offers store recommendations based on the location you previously selected, ensuring convenience and accessibility.
Step 3: Select Your Products Now, you're ready to choose your gear from a range of high-quality snowboarding equipment. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, the implemented platform's filters for size, riding level, style, brand, and other preferences will assist you in finding the gear that perfectly suits your needs and riding style.
Step 4: Checkout Finally, once selected, you proceed to the seamless checkout process. Our 'headless' backend system interacts with the frontend, allowing you to choose your preferred payment method for a frictionless transaction. This system uses Rentsoft for secure, reliable payments, thus providing a smooth and user-friendly checkout experience.
Technical Dive
The RYR platform is a testament to our technical capabilities and approach to problem-solving. Built using TypeScript and React, it incorporates Next.js for server-side rendering, enhancing the website's performance and SEO capabilities.
To provide a user-centric experience, we used Session Storage to store users’ progress. This HTML5 Web Storage API offers an easy way to store data persistently in a user's browser. It allows the customer to pick up where they left off, making their experience on the platform more seamless.
And of course, the platform is fully responsive. Whether you're planning your next snowboarding adventure on a laptop, tablet, or mobile device, you can expect an optimal user experience on every screen size.
In conclusion, we are immensely proud of what we've achieved in this collaboration with Blue Tomato GmbH. The RYR project reflects our dedication to providing the best user experiences by combining innovative software solutions with a clear understanding of our client's needs.
